 Introduction

The foundation pathway is designed to prepare international students for undergraduate courses in business and business-related subjects, hospitality and tourism, politics, law, social sciences, computing, humanities, communication or education.

Four foundation courses are available:
- International Foundation Diploma: If you need to improve your academic English and study skills to progress onto a very wide range of undergraduate courses
- Extended International Foundation Diploma: The International Foundation Diploma with an additional 12 weeks of English language lessons
- International Foundation Arts Humanities and Law: If you need to improve your academic English skills and intend to progress onto arts, humanities, law and social sciences-related degrees - includes automatic progression onto an undergraduate degree requiring just one application and one visa
- International Foundation Business and Technology: If you need to improve your academic English skills and intend to progress onto arts, humanities, law and social sciences-related degrees - includes automatic progression onto an undergraduate degree requiring just one application and one visa

Course content

Over two semesters you choose a personal pathway of modules that build on your language and academic skills and reflect your own subject and career interests. You will develop your knowledge of academic subjects through modules related to your future course of study. One or two of these modules will be at undergraduate level to give you the experience of studying at a higher level with British and other international students. You will also raise your knowledge and confident use of English for academic purposes, and develop your study skills and critical thinking skills before beginning your degree course.

The course trains you to become an independent learner who is fully prepared for university study. You will experience all the teaching and learning methods used in British universities, such as lectures, seminars and tutorials. You will also develop your own ideas through group discussions and class presentations.

Progression

You can progress onto undergraduate courses in business and business-related subjects, hospitality and tourism, politics, law, social sciences, computing, humanities, communication and education. We will give you advice on the best course for you and help you to apply for your chosen undergraduate course at Oxford Brookes or another British university.

International Foundation Diploma

• Starts: September, January
• Entry level: Minimum IELTS 5.0 with 5.0 in all skills or equivalent
• Academic requirements: High school leaving certificate or equivalent

Extended International Foundation Diploma

• Starts: September
• Entry level: Minimum IELTS 4.5 with 4.0 in all skills or equivalent
• Academic requirements: High school leaving certificate or equivalent

International Foundation Arts Humanities and Law

• Starts: September, January
• Entry level: Minimum IELTS 5.5 with 5.5 in all skills or equivalent
• Academic requirements: High school leaving certificate or equivalent

International Foundation Business and Technology

• Starts: September, January
• Entry level: Minimum IELTS 5.5 with 5.5 in all skills or equivalent
