A flexible English course to prepare you for your degree in the UK.

Academic English will prepare you for successful undergraduate or postgraduate study at a UK university, or for entry to one of the academic preparation courses offered by INTO University of Gloucestershire.

What's special about this course?

As well as studying the core elements of the English language, you will also develop your knowledge and skills in areas such as academic speaking and listening, academic writing, note-taking, research and project skills, report writing, and presenting.

The course will help you adjust to the demands, challenges and expectations of UK higher education. You will also be able to practise your developing language skills in a vibrant learning environment where you can take advantage of the University's additional learning facilities and mix with a wide variety of British and international students.

Assessment

At the end of each term, your skills and language will be assessed to give a clear indication of your progress. Methods of assessment may include:
• written assignments
• presentations
• research projects
• reading, writing and listening examinations

Where will it take me?

Course outcomes

Assuming you have met the academic entry requirements for your chosen programme, achieving the required level on the Acadmic English course offers assured progression to the following courses:
• direct entry to an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at the University of Gloucestershire
• assured progression to the International Foundation, International Year One or Graduate Diploma programme*

How long will it take to improve my IELTS score?

On average students are likely to progress at a rate of about 0.5 on the IELTS scale for every 10 weeks of study. So if you only need to improve your IELTS score by 0.5 you need to study this course for one term. If you need to improve by 1.0 IELTS score then take two terms.
