CLIL has been described as 'a major methodological revolution' in language teaching and Academic Summer has responded to the changes and challenges.

For international students we offer a fully integrated summer course of English language learning and curriculum academic subject study. The CLIL approach follows the philosophy of the IB programme, with a strong emphasis on holistic learning and teaching, and with Theory of Knowledge at the centre of the course.

Academic Summer programme offers a wide range of curriculum subjects studied through the medium of English and teaches English Language according to the can do principles of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Content and Language Integrated Learning is based on the 4cs:

  • Content - the curriculum subject itself
  • Culture - raising awarenss of our culture and the culture of others
  • Cognition - thinking and learning skills
  • Communication - sharing our knowldedge with others

At Academic Summer, you will explore the 4Cs with the guidance of subject-specialist teachers and qualified and experienced teachers of English.

The Academic Summer programme is designed to help you widen your subject knowledge and develop your language skills and to be better able in future to follow a course of academic study delivered in English. CLIL looks at language competence from two broad perspectives: Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency, which you will develop in the academic programme; Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills, which you will develop in the social programme and residential experience.
