Other Information

Our CELTA course provides your first step to becoming an English Language Teacher.  You will develop practical teaching skills, with real classroom experience and gain a teaching qualification that will help you find employment in the UK or overseas.

The CELTA course is an intensive programme and we strongly recommend you have no other major commitments when attending our full-time CELTA course.  You will cover the basics of English language teaching over a very short period of time and attend a full timetable.  You will also need to undertake additional 2-3 hours (per day) of private study, to prepare lessons and for research and reading on language and completing the written assignments.

The CELTA is an assessed course accredited by Cambridge English Language Assessment (CELA).

Course content

The course includes:

  • Validation and y moderation by the University of Cambridge English Language Assessment.
  • 120 contact hours including interactive seminars and workshops. These cover teaching methodology, lesson planning, language awareness, pronunciation and classroom management.
  • Supported lesson planning to prepare you for teaching
  • Teaching practice with volunteer students
  • Feedback and reflection on the teaching that you do in a small, supportive tutorial group
  • Observation of peers and experienced English Language teachers
  • One to one support by trainers throughout the course both in tutorials and in supported lesson planning
  • Written feedback on every lesson you teach and on your written assignments

Please note you will need an excellent level of written and spoken English and be educated to degree level.  You are not required to have any previous teaching experience.
