ABOUT THE FIRST CERTIFICATE (FCE) PREPARATION SUMMER COURSE

This course is ideal for students who have an upper-intermediate level of English and wish to prepare for and take the Cambridge First Certificate (FCE) exam. You will also have the opportunity to combine your course with our optional social programme which includes excursions to popular tourist attractions in the South East of England and activities.

This is course 5.6 weeks’ long and you will improve your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills as well as your grammar and vocabulary. You will also study formal and informal writing styles as well as taking practice examinations – all of which is essential for exam success. At the end of the course you will take the Cambridge FCE exam. The Cambridge FCE qualification is internationally-recognised by employers and universities as proof of your level of English.

You will study in multilingual classes, and be taught by a qualified and experienced English language teacher.

All student achieved a grade C, which is the equivalent to CEFR Level B2.

THE FIRST CERTIFICATE (FCE) EXAM

The FCE examination will test your reading, writing, listening, speaking and your Use of English. You will take your reading, writing, listening and Use of English exam on the same day, and your speaking exam will normally take place shortly beforehand.

Sussex Downs College staff will help you book your exam place.

ACCOMMODATION

Sussex Downs College offers three types of accommodation for the Summer First Certificate (FCE) Preparation Course.

HOMESTAY ACCOMMODATION

For students aged 16 years old or above we are able to offer homestay accommodation. You will have your own private bedroom and access to a quiet study area. Homestay accommodation is offered on a half-board basis where you will received breakfast and dinner each day. In addition and at the weekends, you will also receive a light lunch. RESIDENTIAL ACCOMMODATION

We are able to offer students two types of residential accommodation during their Summer First Certificate (FCE) Preparation Summer Course with us.

LIVE WITH A RESIDENT HOST ON A SELF-CATERING BASIS

You can choose to live with a resident host on a self-catering basis. You will have your own private bedroom and access to a quiet study area. You will have clean bed linen and access to laundry facilities each week. For more information about residential accommodation please click here.

Please note that although students aged 16-18 are classified as adults in respect of their eligibility for this course, they are subject to stricter rules on supervision , details of which can be found on the Accommodation tab of the website.

 

ON-CAMPUS RESIDENCE

For students aged 18 years old or above we can offer accommodation on a self-catering basis in the on-campus residenceCaburn House. You will have your own private en-suite study bedroom and share kitchen and living room facilities with other international students.
