Student stories: Welcoming two brothers to Kings London

Brought to you by Kings London

Birol Kaya from Turkey studied with us for nine months last year, and made fantastic progress after starting as a beginner. We are now pleased to be welcoming his younger brother Samet!

We recently met up with Birol to find out about his time at Kings, and his advice for his brother as he begins his study.

Hi Birol. Which courses did you take at Kings?

I did the Intensive English course although I also did preparation for the IELTS exam.

Why did you come here to study?

When I started university I needed to know how to speak English, so I came here to improve my English. When I was here I started in beginner class, then I started to work up.

I always tried to improve my speaking, I used to try and talk to people on the street – I used to give money to homeless people and they would speak to me about their situations. It was nice to meet them.

Why did you choose Kings?

I didn’t know anything about Kings, but one of my friend’s mothers told me that it was really good. I thought I must go there!

Were you happy with your progress?

Yes, I was a beginner at the start and when I left I was pre-advanced — that was the highest level at Kings at the time.

What advice did you give to your brother?

I told him it’s fun, and to work hard and not to be shy!

Why did you recommend Kings to him?

Because I had great times here — the staff and students are great.
