Students plan their own programmes

Students on courses at Weymouth English Centre this summer will be able to plan their own programme of freetime activities.

The school is using new software which enables students to log in from any pc, tablet or smartphone and choose from a variety of sports, activities, local visits and excursions. They can do this before they even come to Weymouth.

"The system allows each student to put together their own personal programme of activities," says Christopher Hills, who is responsible for the project. "Group leaders are happy to let their students choose different activities because the students end up doing things that they have chosen and are interested in. There is also better integration of the different nationalities."

Students can change their activities up to 48 hours before they start and they can download a copy of their programme at any time on a computer, tablet or smartphone.

The school's activity leaders and the group leaders have online access to student lists, which are updated automatically when students change their programmes.

Weymouth English Centre runs English language courses in Weymouth in the summer for teenagers aged between 13 and 17. There are organised activities each afternoon and on four evenings during the week as well as a full-day excursion each Saturday. All the costs of the programme are included in the course price.

The school has a short video demonstrating how the system works at
