The School of Humanities is responsible for all language teaching at the University of Brighton and we welcome some 3000 students each year to our various programmes. We offer a range of internationally accepted qualifications including PhD’s, MA’s, BA’s, Diplomas and Certificates. There are numerous specialist short courses, some of which are advertised in our brochures and some of which are tailor-made for a range of commercial, industrial and academic institutions in this country and from overseas.
Languages taught include French, German, Spanish, Chinese and English. We specialise in EAP (English for Academic Purposes) and preparing students to study in British Universities. We also offer post-graduate courses in language teacher development and professional development for teachers of English. Our objective is to foster an international community where participants on our courses are encouraged to communicate effectively with others in the languages and at the level of their choice. We place particular emphasis on developing active skills and to this end appropriate use is made of modern technology and authentic materials.
We have excellent learning resources which are backed up by a range of specialist facilities including an open-access learning centre, satellite posts, video, CD-ROM, and interactive multi-media. Full use is made of the latest computing and ICT facilities in the classroom.
The school’s 70 members of staff are experienced and qualified. Many have international reputations as researchers, writers and course designers. They use the latest teaching methods, but always consider the needs of individual students.
