Other Information

This is the perfect course to prepare for university entrance in the UK and abroad.  The course starts at the beginning of September, but students with a higher level of English can join in late October. The English language component is as follows: September - October: 21 hours of language preparation for IELTS per week; November - June: 10 hours advanced English language skills per week.

Academic subject pathways are as follows :

Business Studies (Economics, Business & Mathematics)

or International Affairs (Politics, History & Philosophy)

We are a residential college which means you can choose to live in one of our houses or, if you wish, with local families. American students come to St. Clare's as part of their university studies which means you will have the unique experience of practising your English with native speakers.   We run a specially prepared programme of day, evening and weekend trips to places such London, surfing in Cornwall,  Wales, Warwick, etc. as well as social events at our dedicated adult campus in Oxford.

The course consists of two main elements:

English Language study + Academic subjects

This foundation programme is designed for students who wish to:

  • prepare and apply for study on an undergraduate course at a UK university
  • prepare for study at any other university where undergraduate courses are taught in English
  • spend a year improving their English Language and study skills and acquiring subject knowledge in preparation for future studies
